Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Usman Kansong, the Director General of Public Information and Communication at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, has revealed measures to prevent access to bank accounts allegedly connected to online gambling activities.

Kansong disclosed, “Based on reports, there are 1,931 bank accounts suspected to be involved in online gambling,” during an interview with Tempo on Monday, September 25, 2023.

He further explained that the ministry has already submitted 631 accounts to the Financial Services Authority (OJK) for blocking. “Around 201 accounts have already been blocked, leaving us with 430 accounts to process,” he added.

On the preceding Sunday, the communication ministry had sent a formal request to OJK, urging the blocking of several accounts believed to be linked to online gambling. OJK, as authorized by the P2SK Law, has the power to instruct relevant banks to freeze specific accounts.

Besides addressing online gambling, the ministry also monitors accounts involved in other illicit activities, such as illegal online loans, pornography, and radicalism.

Additionally, the communication ministry has been actively providing digital literacy education. Usman emphasized, “This education has been ongoing and will continue to be delivered intensively.
