Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – The Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP) of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Fadli Zon, had a meeting with the Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Zuhair Al Shun. The meeting was held to receive an explanation regarding the conflict that has resurfaced in the Gaza Strip between the Palestinian militant wing (Hamas) and Israel. Fadli stated that they want to objectively evaluate the ongoing conflict.

“We want to look at this objectively, in broad strokes, that what has been happening all this time is a very clear and evident violation by Israel of international agreements, United Nations resolutions, and almost every year there are these violations with the plundering of Palestinian lands,” he said during a press conference after the meeting at the Nusantara III Building, DPR RI, Senayan, Jakarta on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Fadli, a member of the Gerindra Party Faction, added that considering the context of the current conflict, it is actually an effort by the Palestinian people to defend themselves against the aggression carried out by Israel. Therefore, he hopes that the long-standing conflict can be resolved peacefully through negotiations between the two countries.

“We want this conflict to be resolved peacefully through negotiations. In accordance with the existing rules because, so far, Israel has always been the one violating what has become international agreements, including UN resolutions. If we see how, since 1967 until now, Palestinian territories have been shrinking, and there has been international indifference,” he explained.

According to Fadli, Indonesia has always supported Palestinian independence and sovereignty. Thus, this is an appropriate moment to discuss the issue of international recognition of Palestinian sovereignty and the independence of the Palestinian people.

“I believe that our commitment as Indonesia, in accordance with our constitution, is that we must eliminate colonialism around the world because it is not in line with humanity and justice. So I think this is an order from our constitution, and Indonesia is consistent in defending Palestine,” concluded the Member of the DPR RI Commission I.

Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Zuhair Al Shun, expressed his gratitude to Indonesia for always supporting Palestine. He also stated that Palestine currently needs the international community’s assistance in addressing the ongoing conflict.

“Our President and our authorities are engaging in diplomacy worldwide to stop the aggression, and we request Indonesia to also follow and make their undeniable efforts on how to stop the aggression, how to do more for Palestine, especially in the international arena and other parts of the world,” he said.

Also present at the meeting were the Chairman of GKSB DPR RI-Palestinian Parliament, Syahrul Aadi Maazat, and the Director of the Middle East from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bagus Hendraning Kobarsyih.
