RIYADH (Indonesian Post) — Former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan has been appointed as a member of the Advisory Board for the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) in Saudi Arabia.
In his new capacity, Anies attended the Riyadh Competitiveness Forum (RCF) to share his expertise and provide strategic input regarding global urban development.
Anies announced the appointment through his official Instagram account, @aniesbaswedan, on Thursday. He noted that the forum brought together advisory board members from various countries, alongside officials from the Riyadh city administration and the Saudi Arabian government, to discuss strategies for enhancing the Saudi capital’s global competitiveness.
“For the past three days in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, I participated in the Riyadh Competitiveness Forum (RCF). Since last year, I have been entrusted with a mandate as a member of the Advisory Board of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City,” Anies wrote.
During the forum, Anies and a team from Karsa Citylab engaged in discussions and exchanged ideas on developing cities that are sustainable, livable and globally competitive.
According to Anies, a key highlight of the discussions was Riyadh’s enthusiasm to learn from the experiences of other global cities. This included Jakarta, which was recognized for its successful transformation of an integrated public transportation system.

He noted that Jakarta is increasingly viewed as a benchmark in the development of modern, community-friendly urban spaces.
“I am pleased and honored that Riyadh is eager to learn from global cities, with Jakarta serving as one of the benchmarks considered successful in transforming integrated public transportation,” he said.
Anies viewed the recognition as a testament to the ongoing efforts to establish Jakarta as a global city capable of inspiring others on the international stage.
“This is a manifestation of Jakarta’s spirit as a global city; not only acting as a host in our own country but also stepping out as a captivating guest on the world stage,” he added.
He expressed hope that more cities across Indonesia would develop into livable global cities that provide comfort for both residents and visitors, ultimately serving as role models for other cities worldwide.
“Let us work together to push for more cities in Indonesia to upgrade and become global, livable cities that are friendly and comfortable for their inhabitants and visitors,” Anies concluded.
