Jakarta – Jakarta recorded an annual inflation rate of 2.49 percent in May 2026, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS) for Jakarta, marking a noticeable increase compared to the same period last year.

Head of BPS Jakarta, Kadarmanto, stated on Tuesday that the figure rose by 0.42 percentage points from May 2025, when inflation stood at 2.07 percent. The latest data also shows a 0.37 percentage point increase compared to April 2026, indicating a steady upward trend in annual inflation.

From the expenditure perspective, all spending categories contributed to inflation on a yearly basis in May. The largest share came from the food, beverages, and tobacco group, which contributed 0.79 percentage points to the overall figure.

Other notable contributors included personal care and miscellaneous services, which added 0.69 percentage points, followed by the transportation sector with a 0.35 percentage point contribution.

In terms of commodities, gold jewelry emerged as the biggest driver of inflation, accounting for 0.58 percentage points. Air transportation followed with a 0.18 percentage point contribution, while chicken meat contributed 0.17 percentage points. Rice and cooking oil also played significant roles, contributing 0.13 and 0.10 percentage points respectively.

On a monthly basis, Jakarta experienced a mild inflation rate of 0.12 percent in May 2026.

The transportation sector was the main driver of monthly inflation, contributing 0.07 percentage points. Within this category, gasoline prices increased by 1.06 percent, accounting for 0.05 percentage points of the monthly inflation.
