Jakarta – Indonesia and seven other countries have strongly condemned recent attacks on two mosques in the northern Ramallah area of the occupied West Bank, describing the incidents as serious violations of international law and religious sanctity.
In a joint statement posted on the Indonesian Foreign Ministry’s official X account on Friday, Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates denounced the escalating violence carried out by Israeli forces and settlers against Palestinians, including the attacks on the Grand Mosque in Jiljilya village and Al-Farouq Mosque in Mazar’a al-Nubani.
The statement emphasized that such assaults constitute a clear breach of the sanctity of places of worship, as well as violations of international law, including international humanitarian law, and relevant United Nations resolutions.
The eight countries reiterated their firm rejection of what they described as ongoing unlawful actions by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territories, warning that such measures continue to fuel instability, violence and extremism while undermining international efforts to achieve lasting peace.
The foreign ministers also held Israel, as the occupying power, responsible for the attacks and their consequences on the ground.
They urged the international community to uphold its legal and moral obligations by exerting pressure on Israel to halt the escalation in the occupied West Bank, end illegal practices and settler violence, and ensure accountability for perpetrators without impunity.
In addition, the statement reaffirmed full support for the Palestinian people, including their inalienable right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The countries also expressed support for all efforts aimed at ending Israel’s occupation and achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace through a two-state solution in line with international law, relevant UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The attacks took place on Wednesday night (June 17), when Israeli settlers reportedly targeted the two mosques in Jiljilya and Mazar’a al-Nubani villages. According to Anadolu Agency, parts of the buildings were set on fire, and Hebrew-language graffiti was spray-painted on their walls amid a broader surge in attacks targeting Palestinian towns, religious sites, land and property.
