Indonesia, Turkey ink pact to make electric buses, build toll road

Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Indonesia and Turkey signed several strategic government-to-government and two business-to-business agreements on Monday.

“In accordance with the President’s directives, there are several important agreements between the business world (of the two countries) that we have so far encouraged and now, it has entered the final process. But only two agreements are ready to be signed,” Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey Lalu M. Iqbal informed in a written statement released on Monday.

The two nations will soon focus on realizing the agreements they have signed and accelerating the signing of agreements that are currently under discussion.

The two business-to-business agreements inked by the two countries cover the joint production of electric buses by Karsan of Turkey and PT Schahmindo Perkasa (Credo Group) of Indonesia and the construction of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road by PT Hutama Karya of Indonesia and Turkish contractor ERG Insaat.

The signing of the agreements was witnessed by the Indonesian Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

The agreements between the governments of the two countries cover cooperation in the fields of defense, environment, forestry, research and technology, innovation, and development cooperation assistance.

President Joko Widodo took note of the signing of the agreements during bilateral talks with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyib Erdogan, at the Apurva Kempinski in Bali on Monday.
