Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar has underscored the importance of aligning government programs with philanthropic initiatives under the newly launched “Kolaborasi Indonesia Berdaya” (Indonesia Berdaya Collaboration), which he said should strengthen welfare policies and accelerate poverty reduction.

The movement was officially launched at Istiqlal Mosque in Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Thursday. Speaking at the event, Muhaimin said community empowerment should be pursued through an equal partnership model, allowing both sides to design and deliver programs that are practical, targeted and measurable.

Carrying the theme “Pulih Bersama, Bangkit Berdaya” (Recover Together, Rise Empowered), the launch highlighted the need to combine the state’s long-standing experience in public service delivery with the on-the-ground reach of philanthropic groups. Muhaimin argued that bringing these strengths together could open a more effective approach to addressing poverty, particularly in communities that remain vulnerable to economic shocks.

While Indonesia’s poverty rate declined to 8.25 percent as of September 2025, Muhaimin said the progress would not be sufficient if it was not followed by sustained empowerment efforts. He also warned that disasters that strike repeatedly across the archipelago could create new pockets of poverty, complicating the government’s ambition to eliminate extreme poverty in 2026.

“We believe that poverty reduction through various efforts — including what is most important today through the Indonesia Berdaya Collaboration — must no longer remain an ongoing fact without being addressed at a fundamental level,” he said. Muhaimin added that poverty should not be allowed to persist as a structural or cultural reality passed down through previous generations’ experiences.

The event also featured the distribution of 1,000 gift packages for orphans, 10,000 meal packages for voluntary iftar for the general public, and Rp 4.1 billion (approximately US$ value not stated) in recovery assistance for Sumatra, delivered in cooperation with a number of philanthropic institutions.
