Jakarta – Pangdam XIII/Merdeka Commander Maj. Gen. Mirza Agus has highlighted Lake Tondano in Minahasa, North Sulawesi, as a site with strong potential to develop into a major water‑sports tourism destination. He delivered the remarks after joining a Fun Bike event held on Sunday to celebrate the 68th anniversary of Kodam XIII/Merdeka.

With its striking natural scenery, Lake Tondano is well positioned to become one of the region’s flagship attractions. Through the Fun Bike program and a series of supporting activities, Kodam XIII/Merdeka aims to showcase Tondano’s tourism prospects to a wider public. An increase in tourist arrivals, Mirza said, would help stimulate local economic activity.

The commander added that broader support from various stakeholders could accelerate the development of Lake Tondano into a tourism hub offering natural beauty and a wide range of recreational and sports activities. Large‑scale events such as the Kodam XIII/Merdeka Fun Bike are expected to become regular fixtures to attract more visitors and sustain regional economic growth.

The Fun Bike forms part of the military command’s strategy to help spur local development by promoting tourism and strengthening community‑based economic initiatives. The arrival of thousands of participants and spectators has provided a boost to local businesses, including food vendors, small enterprises, and transport service providers.

The event continued with a Jet Ski performance on Lake Tondano, which offered entertainment while creating economic spillover for surrounding communities. The surge in visitors filled stalls operated by small and medium enterprises, along with other local vendors, underscoring the economic benefits of such public events.
