Indonesia, Turkey share same principle on Palestine: FM Marsudi

Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi stated that Indonesia and Turkey follow the same principle in responding to the issue of Palestine.

Palestine was the main matter of concern during Marsudi’s bilateral meeting with Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, in Ankara on Wednesday.

“Indonesia’s position is very clear. We want to always defend humanity and justice for Palestine, for Palestinian people,” she noted in a press statement conveyed by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In responding to Israel’s war on Gaza, the minister underscored that Indonesia wants an immediate and lasting ceasefire as well as unhindered and sustained humanitarian assistance.

Indonesia also reaffirmed its support for a credible peace process towards a two-state solution and Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations (UN).

“In February 2024, I conveyed my oral statement before the International Court of Justice as another effort to support Palestine. Indonesia will use all possible avenues to support Palestine,” she remarked.

The two ministers’ discussion also highlighted the important role of the Global South as a bridge builder and agenda setter in various multilateral forums, as well as an advocate for fair global governance.

“To conclude, once again, Indonesia looks forward to leverage on our strategic influence to contribute to the well-being of our people, to the well-being of the world, as well as to the wider ummah,” she affirmed.

Indonesia and Turkey are two leading developing countries with large Muslim populations and strategic influence in their respective regions.

The two countries are members of the G20, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the MIKTA grouping along with Mexico, South Korea, and Australia. (Antara/Ans)
