Indonesia has adopted the ASEAN Tourism Sectoral Plan (ATSP) 2026–2030 as part of its effort to advance inclusive, sustainable and globally competitive regional tourism, in line with commitments highlighted at the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2026.

“ASEAN is not only Indonesia’s closest market, but also the heart of tourism growth that drives repeat visits, offers new experiences and opens shared opportunities for the region,” Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said in an official statement confirmed in Jakarta on Friday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of ATF 2026 on Wednesday (Jan. 28) in Cebu, the Philippines, Widiyanti said the ATSP 2026–2030 was designed as a guide for regional tourism development.

She said the roadmap aims to enrich visitor experiences, empower businesses from small to large, and strengthen ASEAN’s position in the global tourism market.

Widiyanti expressed confidence that closer cooperation would help steer ASEAN tourism toward a more integrated, resilient and sustainable future.

“Let us continue working together to build a more integrated, resilient and sustainable future for ASEAN tourism,” she said.

At the same event, Philippine Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco delivered a message from Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., underscoring the importance of inclusive and sustainable tourism and the sector’s crucial role in creating economic opportunities for communities.

“When tourism is inclusive, it becomes empowering. When policies are carried out with care, it becomes sustainable,” Marcos said.

The message echoed the spirit of the ATSP 2026–2030, which serves as a key milestone of ATF 2026.

The ATSP 2026–2030 reflects the region’s push toward inclusive growth, environmentally friendly development and progress that prioritizes people’s welfare, according to the statement.

The Philippines opened ATF 2026 under the theme “Navigating Our Tourism Future, Together”, calling on member states and partners to move forward collectively in upgrading the quality of regional tourism through the plan’s five pillars.

The five pillars include resilient tourism, empowerment of the tourism workforce, accessible and seamless travel, digital tourism, product and market diversification, and sustainable tourism.
