Jakarta — U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that he will not attend his son’s wedding, citing pressing government responsibilities that require him to remain in Washington.

A day earlier, Trump acknowledged that the ongoing tensions surrounding Iran made it an inappropriate time for him to travel abroad. His son, Donald Trump Jr., is scheduled to marry Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas this weekend.

“While I would very much like to be with my son, Don Jr., and welcome the newest member of the Trump family, his fiancée Bettina, the demands of government and my commitment to the United States make it impossible for me to attend,” Trump said in a statement posted on his Truth Social platform.

“I believe it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this critical period. Congratulations to Don and Bettina,” he added.

Following the announcement, the White House confirmed adjustments to the president’s weekend schedule. Trump has canceled his planned trip to his golf resort in New Jersey and will stay in the capital instead.

The president did not elaborate on what specifically made the period critical. However, the decision comes as diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East appear to be approaching a decisive stage.

Iran is reportedly reviewing a new proposal from the United States, while a senior Pakistani military official—acting as a mediator—is en route to Tehran.

At the same time, geopolitical tensions are not limited to the Middle East. The United States has intensified its pressure campaign against Cuba by filing charges against former president Raúl Castro.

In a parallel show of force, the U.S. military has deployed an aircraft carrier along with accompanying warships to the Caribbean, signaling a broader strategic posture amid rising global uncertainty.
