- The United States and Iran have reportedly finalized 95 percent of a nuclear agreement framework, with only technical wording and key provisions still under discussion.
- Despite progress in negotiations, tensions remain high following recent military strikes, a temporary ceasefire, and unresolved diplomatic talks in Islamabad.
- The US has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports, indicating continued pressure on Tehran even as both sides move closer to a formal agreement.
Jakarta – Tensions in the Middle East appear to be entering a new phase as negotiations between the United States and Iran reportedly approach completion, with key issues still under discussion.
A preliminary framework agreement between Washington and Tehran has reached approximately 95 percent completion, according to a report by Fox News on Sunday (May 24). The report cited an unnamed US official who confirmed that Iran has, in principle, agreed to the proposed framework.
“We have reached 95 percent. There is already mutual understanding regarding nuclear stockpiles and the Strait of Hormuz, but we are still negotiating the wording,” the official said.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that a deal with Iran had essentially been agreed upon, with only final details pending before a formal announcement.
The developments follow a period of escalating conflict earlier this year. On February 28, the United States, alongside Israel, launched coordinated strikes on multiple targets within Iran. The attacks reportedly resulted in more than 3,000 casualties, marking one of the deadliest escalations in recent years.
In response to growing international concern, Washington and Tehran agreed to a two-week ceasefire on April 8, temporarily halting hostilities.
However, subsequent negotiations held in Islamabad failed to produce a definitive outcome, raising questions about the durability of diplomatic efforts.
Although no formal declaration of renewed conflict has been issued, the United States has since imposed a blockade on Iranian ports, signaling continued pressure on Tehran amid unresolved tensions.
